Can I stay in Machu Picchu all day?

Machu Picchu allows entry to approximately 5,940 tourists each day. Before, people could stay there from 6 am until the closing time at 5 pm However, the new visitor limit makes time limited to 4 hours.

 

This is the schedule in Machu Picchu

  • Machu Picchu offers 4 admission tickets, which have their own schedules:

Machu Picchu Solo ticket:

  • Group 1 – admission from 6 in the morning.
  • Group 2 – admission from 7 in the morning.
  • Group 3 – admission from 8 in the morning.
  • Group 4 – admission from 9 in the morning.
  • Group 5 – admission from 10 in the morning.
  • Group 6 – admission from 11 in the morning.
  • Group 7 – admission from 12 pm
  • Group 8 – admission from 1 pm
  • Group 9 – admission from 2 pm

 

Ticket Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu:

 

  • Group 1 – admission from 6 in the morning. (admission to Huayna Picchu from 7 am to 8 am).
  • Group 2 – admission from 7 in the morning. (admission to Huayna Picchu from 7 am to 8 am).
  • Group 3 – admission from 8 in the morning. (admission to Huayna Picchu from 10.30 am to 11.30 am).

Ticket Machu Picchu + Mountain:

  • Group 1 – admission from 6 in the morning. (entrance to the Mountain from 7 am to 8 am).
  • Group 2 – admission from 7 in the morning. (entrance to the Mountain from 7 am to 8 am).
  • Group 3 – admission from 8 in the morning. (entrance to the Mountain from 9 am to 10 am).

Ticket Machu Picchu + Museum:

  • Hours in Machu Picchu – 9 hours from 6 am / 7 am / 8 am / 9 am / 10 am / 11 am / 12 pm / 1 pm / 2 pm
  • Hours at the Museum – every day from 8 am to 4 pm

 

How long can I be in Machu Picchu?

  • These are the visit time limits for each type of Machu Picchu ticket:

Machu Picchu Solo ticket:

  • Visiting time limit of 4 hours from the moment of admission.

Ticket Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu:

  • Visiting time limit of 6 hours from the moment of admission.

Is it possible to be in Machu Picchu all day?

  • People who want to stay all day in Machu Picchu must buy two tickets or more.
  • In the morning, the visitor must purchase the Machu Picchu Solo ticket, starting at 6 am, 7 am or 8 am
  • Another option is to purchase a ticket to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, whose departure times are from 1 pm

What to do in Machu Picchu all day?

Temple of the Sun – The most important religious site in Machu Picchu. It was built on a huge rock, in the highest part of the Inca City. It is the only semi-circular building. The sun’s rays enter through its windows.

Temple of the Condor – A monument built in the religious sector on a granite rock whose shape has the appearance of an Andean condor, a bird considered sacred by the Incas. This monument is composed of two rocks: a huge one that represents the body and a small one that shapes the condor peak.

Intihuatana – A characteristic building of the main Inca citadels, which has a polygonal shape. Its name means ‘Solar clock’ because it predicted the change of seasons in Machu Picchu. It is believed that the Intihuatana radiates solar energy and that tourists can feel it just by bringing their hands closer.

Intipunku – This construction was the old entrance gate to Machu Picchu at the time of the Incas. It consists of several walls and windows where the sun’s rays fall. Today it is one of the hiking trails preferred by tourists. It takes 2 hours to get there from the Inca Citadel.

Temple of the Moon – This mysterious building is a temple built in a natural cave of the Huayna Picchu mountain. Huayna Picchu – Touring this summit represents one of the most incredible short walks on the planet due to its paths surrounded by nature and terrifying views of cliffs. On this mountain the Incas built stone staircases and mysterious buildings such as the Temple of the Moon. Admission is only for people over 12 years old.

Machu Picchu Mountain – This mountain is the summit on which the Incas built the Inca City of Machu Picchu. There the Incas built stone stairs to its top. Getting there is a great adventure available for tourists of all ages. Climbing this summit is a great alternative to Huayna Picchu.

Do I have to hire a guide both times I enter Machu Picchu?

  • Tour guides will enter with groups of a maximum of 16 people.
  • The guides will deliver a special ticket to people who will re-enter the Inca City in another turn.
  • Tourists will have to show it at the entrance gate to Machu Picchu to be allowed to enter, this time without the company of a guide.
  • If you buy the Machu Picchu tickets for two days in a row, as in the previous case, the second day you can enter with the ticket given by your guide the day before.

 

 

Tips for an unforgettable visit to Machu Picchu

  • Machu Picchu is open every day of the year from 6 am to 5 pm April to October is the peak tourist season, so tickets must be purchased in advance.
  • All Machu Picchu tickets must be purchased a few weeks in advance, except for the ticket to Huayna Picchu, which must be purchased 3 months before.
  • If you visit Machu Picchu all day yes or yes you must spend a night in the town of Aguas Calientes.
